Licence: GSA's website policies say: "Works produced by federal government employees in the course of their employment are generally not protected by copyright and are in the public domain in the U.S." GSA asks for citation and a link back, which this site gives on every page.

2. Department of State foreign per diem

3. Defense Travel Management Office OCONUS rates

Defense Travel Management Office, Per Diem Rate Lookup, "Maximum per diem rates outside the continental United States", effective 2026-11-01 (PDF SHA-1 39db89937dd2). Used for Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories, and as an independent cross-check of the foreign rates: 1079 of 1081 matching foreign rows agree on lodging and M&IE. Public domain (17 U.S.C. §105).

4. Federal Travel Regulation

41 CFR Part 301-11, read from the eCFR (version of October 1, 2026, as amended by FTR Case 2025-05, 90 FR 56893). Used for the 75% first and last day rule (§301-11.20) and the other rules quoted on How per diem works. GSA per diem FAQs for boundary rules.

5. City search (calculator only)

City names and counties in the calculator's search box come from GeoNames (cities5000, CC BY 4.0) and U.S. Census county names. A city is matched to a GSA destination through its county; GSA's rule that a key city's corporate limits are included can make a city near a county line differ, so the calculator says which county it used. ZIP codes are matched directly with GSA's ZIP code file.
